The seven blood-red Jety-Oguz bulls are weathered rocks, each year, under the influence of a strong Issyk-Kul wind, gradually changing their appearance. Today they are no longer seven, but many more – some tourists number ten, or even eleven mighty, glowing in the sun. This amazingly beautiful rock ensemble is not the only one in these places. Another notable rock is the famous Broken Heart, the site of a true pilgrimage of lovers. Legends tell us that this split red rock is the heart of an unfortunate girl who broke up in grief. The girl could not survive the death of two young men, who could not divide her among themselves, and died in battle with each other. From all over the country, loving couples and newlyweds come to the Broken Heart to touch this amazing legend.
At the beginning of Jety-Oguz is a surprisingly wide green valley interspersed with red rocks and dark green forests. Here grow famous magnificent Tien Shan fir trees, straight and slender, with their crowns resembling mighty cypresses. The height of individual trees reaches sixty meters, and most of them age hundreds of years. Initially, spruce is caught by small islets among picturesque rock placers, and a little higher upstream is the real thick spruce forest that spills across the endless green sea. Jety-Oguz forests with their scales are not inferior to the Siberian taiga, surpassing it with their unusual severe mountain beauty.
Wide in the beginning, the Jety-Oguz valley narrows into a blood-red canyon, which at an altitude of three thousand meters above sea level suddenly expands into a spacious valley not less than fifteen kilometers wide. Here dominate the dense emerald green of alpine and subalpine meadows. Beautiful silver edelweiss, similar to the stars, beautiful alpine chamomiles and golden root cover the slopes of the mountains with a thick multi-colored carpet. From the valley offers a stunning view of the mountains covered with thick fir forests and the gray caps of the snow peaks of Terskey.
In the valley of the gorge there are two notable places that are accessible for visiting – the same cave and the waterfall “Maiden spit”. The cave is located relatively close to the Jety-Oguz sanatorium, in one of the western slopes of the gorge, about 10-15 minutes along the road. The cave is shallow – about 80-100 meters. The width is about 2.5 meters, and the height is about 2 meters. Inside it is very damp, it is caused by abundant internal currents of water, so it is worth thinking about your safety, since high humidity can contribute to sudden collapse of internal rocks.
The waterfall is about 15 km from the entrance to the gorge, to get to it you need to drive 8 bridges, through a meandering river, and then further along a very rocky road 2-3 km, which makes it difficult to walk on cars. Having reached the road to the nearest point to the waterfall, you can reach it by foot or by horse in about 1-1.5 hours. On the way to the waterfall, as you rise, a picturesque panorama of the whole gorge opens. The waterfall will also leave pleasant sensations from the freshness and beauty of the falling water.
Altyn-Arashan. Behind the village of Ak-Suu the gorge expands. The left slope is densely covered with spruce forest. Arashan gorge is very picturesque. At an altitude of 2600 m, in a wide valley with spruce forest, green meadows and fragrant flowers, on the right bank of the river, there is a small resort “Altyn-araşan” (Golden Spring). The resort was established in 1963 on the basis of hot springs with increased mineralization and radioactivity.
Altyn-Arashan in translation means “golden healing keys”. Surprisingly, in a small area on the surface of the earth, springs with different composition of water and temperature are beating. In the hydrogen sulphide source, the water temperature reaches +41, in radon +320. They can be bathed all year round, healing water treats diseases of the joints, digestive organs, liver, kidneys, heart. Pools with springs are made of stone. In addition to the wells created by human hands, there are also wild ones located along the river. Thus, you can take a natural contrast shower. I plunged into the river cold water and into a hot spring! Very useful for hardening.
Altyn-Arashan is a romantic place and young couples are especially recommended here. And even one of the thermal springs is laid out in the form of a heart. And there is a grotto and a swallow’s nest. At a height of three meters above the ground from the rock beats a hot radon key. Nature herself created a small grotto, a little human effort and turned out a bathroom, in shape resembling a swallow’s nest.
